5 Ways to Mix Up Your Moscow Mule

Ever since its invention in the 1940s, The Moscow Mule has become the perfect way to enjoy your favorite alcoholic beverage. It’s a simplistic, yet genius combination: vodka, lime, and ginger beer. However, it’s good to mix it up every once in a while to keep the drink fresh. There are many different ways to revamp a Moscow Mule, but here are five of the best.

  • Even though the Moscow Mule’s mainstay is vodka, you can also replace it with bourbon. This drink is often called the Kentucky Mule. The addition of bourbon also makes the drink sweeter. If you’re looking for a dash of spice, try a stronger ginger beer. To make a Kentucky Mule, combine 2 ounces of bourbon with .5 ounces of lime juice in a copper mug with ice. Afterward, add the ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
  • The Gin Gin Mule substitutes vodka for gin, obviously. The base of drink this is made to be minty and refreshing. To make this drink, place five fresh mint leaves on the bottom of your mug and pour .5 ounces of lime juice over them. Mix them together and then add your gin and ice. After that, add your ginger beer and garnish with mint and a lime wedge.
  • If you’re looking for a fun and innovative take, try the Mexican Mule. This drink replaces vodka with tequila and adds fresh lime juice on top. Fill your cup up with ice and then add 2 ounces of tequila, .5 ounces of lime juice, and ginger beer. Stir for a couple of seconds and garnish with fresh lime.
  • For the ultimate amount of spice, the Spicy Mule is a perfect way to accomplish it. This drink maintains the vodka but calls for Jalapeno peppers to be added to the mix. You might be surprised to realize how well the taste of the peppers meshes with the ginger. To make this drink, take slices of thin pepper and put it at the bottom of your cup. Then add orange liqueur and lime juice over it. Muddle to your heart’s desire. Add the ice and stir in the ginger beer. In the end, garnish with jalapeno peppers and serve.
  • The Garden Mule is one of the most refreshing variations out there, due to the add of fresh fruits and vegetables. To bring this drink to life, use four slices of cucumber, 16 blueberries, six mint leaves and a little extra mint for garnish. Then, for the liquid, get 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of lime juice, 4 ounces of ginger beer, and one piece of candied ginger. Place the cucumber, half the blueberries, and candied ginger into a cocktail shaker. Muddle all of these ingredients together until they’re fully crushed. Add ice, vodka, and lime. Shake it all up to mix it together. After that, fill your mug with ice and then put the contents of the shaker in it. Add the ginger beer and the rest of the blueberries. Then, for garnish, add a piece of the candied ginger along with a piece of mint.

There are a variety of different reiterations that provide their own spin on the fan favorite without losing its heart. No matter what situation you may find yourself in, there’s a Moscow Mule variation that’ll surely be right for you.
